Ken Willyard announces retirement

An open house for Ken Willyard Insurance Agency Inc. will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 4 at 1315 Main Ave., Suite 211.

Participants will help Willyard celebrate as he finishes 36 years as a State Farm agent. He will retire Dec. 31 and wants to thank all the policyholders.

Know Your Dough receives grant

Know Your Dough, a local nonprofit providing financial literacy for youth and young adults, announces it has received a $2,000 Mercury Gives grant.

Salute to Veterans adds board members

Salute to Veterans welcomes these new members to its board of directors:

Army veteran 2nd Lt. Karl Ingram deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, phases 4 and 5, has joined the board. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and is currently a customer-service representative with Alpine Bank in Durango.

Lisa Laughlin the executive officer at the Home Builders Association of Southwest Colorado in Durango also has joined the board. She has a degree in business management and an MBA in corporate finance. She also is a licensed property insurance claims adjuster.

Salute to Veterans is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring and assisting veterans, active military and their families.

James Brost receives designation

Intelligent Investment Management, a fee-only, independent Registered Investment Adviser since 1997, announces that James Brost earned his Accredited Portfolio Management Advisor designation through the College for Financial Planning.

Brost has furthered his credentials by adding this designation to his Certified Financial Planner certification. Stained-glass studio announces opening

Tristan’s Stained Glass announces its opening at 1309 East Third Ave., No. 2.

The business is owned by Tristan Reynolds who has spent 18 years as a stained-glass teacher and artist. The retail business will offer classes and costume orders. Reynolds previously operated a gallery in Montana.

Reynolds will offer classes in sessions of four over the course of two weeks. Each class will be given two days per week for an hour and a half. All patterns and glass will be included in the price, and participants will take home a finished product. Evening and day classes will be available. The copper-foil technique will be addressed in the first class, with lead classes offered upon completion.

Senior consulting firm announces opening

SW Senior Consulting announces its opening at 640 E. Pioneer Drive.

The business is owned by Stacey Ebel, who was most recently the director of social services at Four Corners Health Care Center for 3½ years. Before that, she worked as the department assistant for 6½ years. Ebel currently conducts psychiatric evaluations at all five area nursing homes on an as-needed basis.

The business officially opened Nov. 10 and provides individualized consulting for seniors and their families regarding long-term placement needs including in-home or facility-based living. SW Senior Consulting also will help seniors and their families with referrals regarding advance directives, can help secure financial resources such as Medicare, VA, Medicaid etc., and can arrange facility tours. In addition, the business can assist families that live out of town by checking on their local loved one’s safety and well-being.
