Terryl Peterson honored as Adviser of the Year

The Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center honored Terryl Peterson as the Advisor of the Year for 2014.

The award was presented by Joe Keck, executive director of the center, at the fifth annual Southwest Colorado Women’s Small Business Conference on July 24. Peterson has been an adviser for five years, regularly making time to consult with clients regarding the financial aspects of running a business. She helps clients do budgets and financial projections to get an accurate picture of what overhead, expenses and salaries will look like.

Peterson received a degree in accounting from Fort Lewis College, an MBA from the University of Colorado, Denver and became a CPA in 1987. She also holds the designation of a certified valuation analyst, which she earned from the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts in 2013. Peterson owns, Terryl Peterson, CFO, LLC, where she focuses on small to mid-size business in all phases of development.

Region 9 Economic announces new hire

Stephani Burditt has joined the Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado’s staff in June as a part-time administrative assistant.

Burditt grew up in Oklahoma and moved to Chicago where she graduated from Columbia College with a degree in management. She is currently working toward her MBA. Her experience includes work as a production and administrative assistant before moving to Durango last year.

Region 9 adds to loan fund committee

Livia Cloman Lynch, a Pagosa Springs native, has joined the Region 9 Economic Development District’s Business Loan Fund Committee.

Lynch has degrees in agriculture economics, agribusiness and a doctorate in applied economics. Lynch has worked as an agricultural economist and business professor in Iowa, Georgia and Colorado State University before returning to her family cattle ranch in Pagosa Springs. Lynch is a business owner and has been active in the Southwest Colorado United Way board of directors and Pagosa Springs Rotary Club, currently serving her second term as president. She also has been involved in education with the Archuleta County School Advisory Committees, serving as a past executive director of the Archuleta County Education Center and coordinator for Student Services for Southwest Colorado Community College.

Lynch was approved by the Region 9 Executive Board and will be an Archuleta County representative on the Loan Committee.

Bicycle-rack company names sale associate

Jim Adkins, founder and designer of PutUp, the local bicycle rack company in Bodo Industrial Park, announces the appointment of David Hale, as sales associate in Wichita Falls, Texas, just in time for the Hotter’N Hell Hundred on Aug. 23.

Hale has secured Booth E10-E11 at the event, a 100-mile road-bike endurance race. He will have examples of various PutUp models, as well as photographs, brochures and water bottles.

The company installed a free-standing three-bike capacity rack inside the Hotter’N Hell office building. A free-standing six-bike capacity rack was installed in front of the Wichita Falls Multi-Purpose Event Center and the Ray Clymer Exhibit Hall.

Gas, oil businesses receive recognition

The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission honored local businesses WPX Energy, Swift Energy Operating and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe’s Department of Energy as outstanding operators.

Each year, the commission places a call for nominations for outstanding operations awards, which are intended to recognize the achievements of the gas and oil industry in Colorado in several operational, environmental and community-involvement categories.

These awards honor year 2013 projects that merit special recognition for the following:

Swift Energy Operating was recognized for community engagement.

WPX Energy was recognized for technological advancement.

Southern Ute Indian Tribe’s Department of Energy was recognized for environmental protection – greenhouse gas reduction.

Wells Fargo Advisors announces new hire

The Durango branch of Wells Fargo Advisors announces that Darlene Willour has joined the firm as a client associate.

Before joining Wells Fargo Advisors, she was at Mercy Regional Medical Center for six years. A graduate of Purdue University with a degree in hotel management, Willour has 10 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Wells Fargo Advisors’ Durango office now has four financial advisers and two client associates serving investors in the Durango area. The office is at 1129 Main Ave.

Chamber of Commerce to host Tuesday Talk

Durango Chamber of Commerce’s Tuesday Talk will take place at 7:45 a.m. Sept. 2 at Carver Brewing Co., 1022 Main Ave.

This is a casual networking event. Participants will receive a free cup of coffee, be able to mingle with local green business advocates and learn about the different ways to improve business operations in a sustainable and efficient manner. Salon del Sol announces new staff

Megan Cole has joined Salon del Sol, 480 Wolverine Drive, Suite 11 in Bayfield.

Cole worked previously at Hair Fusion. She is an experienced hairstylist who specializes in men and women’s haircuts and colors. Her love for hairstyling has kept her inspired to continually further her education and keep her styles fresh and relevant. Cole is accepting new clients.

Also, Crystal Bynum, a licensed cosmetologist and certified nail technician, has joined the salon.
