Upper Pine River Fire receives honor

The Special District Association of Colorado has honored Upper Pine River Fire Protection District with the association’s 2013 Collaboration Award.

The award was announced at the association’s annual conference last month in Keystone.

The award honors the fire district for its role in the “Every 15 Minutes” program in the Bayfield community, a collaboration to raise awareness about teen drunken driving. Three law-enforcement agencies came together with the lead from the Bayfield marshal, and the fire district served as coordinator, along with other local agencies. The program resulted in a community event that reduced incidents of alcohol-related events.
