Counterfeit $100 bills reported downtown

The Durango Business Improvement District (BID) received a report from a merchant of counterfeit $100 bills being passed in downtown.

The merchant’s bank informed them of the fake bills.

Four $100 bills from four separate merchants were presented for deposit, and all were found to be counterfeit.

The merchant also let BID know that “bad bill” pens won’t work on these bills, as the paper is real.

The only way to spot these bills is by looking for the watermark. Ask your financial institution for other tips to avoid accepting counterfeit money.
