Sorrel Sky Gallery receives nomination

Sorrel Sky Gallery has been nominated for the Design Center Top 50 Designer Retailer Awards.

This is the second nomination as a top retailer in Sorrel Sky’s 11 years of business. The award is given to retailers “for excellence in merchandising, sales and display of designer jewelry.”

Retirement strategies discussion is planned

Wealth strategists, Rolan Caler and Michael Gabardi of Accelerated Wealth, will host a free workshop from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

The workshop will discuss retirement strategies advocated by founders Chris Abeyta and Bill Walton, hosts of “The Retirement Show” on KVOR and KHOW Radio. Abeyta also is a Fox Business Contributor. People who are retired or 10 to 13 years away from retirement are encouraged to attend. Topics will include why the Dow Jones industrial average historic high should make people nervous, why Americans lost 30-50 percent of their wealth in 2008-09, how filing for Social Security benefits too early could cost people 56 percent, how to protect assets from rising nursing home costs and Veterans’ Aid. Health department announces new hire

San Juan Basin Health Department welcomes Mackenzie Morgan as its new healthy communities family-health coordinator.

She is a recent graduate of Fort Lewis College with a major in public health and a minor in Spanish. Morgan has worked as a certified nurse assistant locally and served as an intern for the School Based Health Centers. As the family health coordinator, she will do outreach to the public and assist individuals and families in enrolling in various public-insurance programs such as Medicaid and CHP+ along with case management for families.

American AgCredit declares dividend

America AgCredit, a member-owned cooperative, declared a dividend payout for the eighth consecutive year returning more than $45 million for 2012 to their farm and ranch members.

In the Four Corners, they are returning more than $650,000. America AgCredit, part of the Farm Credit System, has been servicing the financial needs of farmers and ranchers since 1916. The Farm Credit System has offices throughout the 50 states and provides both long-term mortgage financing for land and short-term financing.
