Human-resource managers to meet

The Durango Area Human Resource Managers will host a luncheon featuring speaker Dr. Chistopher Greene from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Strater Hotel’s Pullman Room, 699 Main Ave.

Greene of Changing Lives Wellness Center will present “Weight in the Workplace: Practical Approaches to the Risings Costs of Health Care.” The talk will include information about Colorado’s free Weight and Win Program, tools and education for a healthier workplace, and will demystify the media’s conflicting messages about public health. The cost is $15 for members and $17 for nonmembers and includes lunch with an entrée, rolls, dessert and coffee or iced tea. Entrée choices will be chicken gorgonzola salad with raspberry vinaigrette (gluten free) or a cheese and vegetable wrap with pasta salad.

Health care exchange to be discussed

The Durango Chamber of Commerce will host an Eggs & Issues Breakfast titled “CO Health Care Exchange ... What Employers Need to Know Today!” at 8 a.m. June 27 at DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

A panel of experts including Linda Gann, Western Slope Outreach Coordinator Connect for Health CO; Bill Willson, consultant, Mercy Regional Medical Center; Rachel Cameron, programs manager, La Plata Family Centers Coalition; and Ken Bates, Durango Insurance Professionals will be on hand to discuss Connect for Health CO, the new health-insurance marketplace. Beginning in October people will be able to shop, compare, pick and purchase health plans. The cost is $15 for chamber members and $20 for nonmembers. Reservations are required.

Pine River Library hires library director

The Pine River Library Board of Trustees has hired Amy Dodson as library director.

Dodson takes on the role after the retirement of Donnalee Baxstrom, who led the library for 35 years. She came to the Pine River Library District in May from Southern California. Before moving to Colorado, she worked for the Riverside County Library System as head librarian in two locations in Riverside County. As a public librarian, she has 17 years of experience serving communities. Dodson is a native of the Louisville, Ky., area, and earned her master of library science degree at the University of Kentucky, and bachelor’s degree in English and women’s studies at the University of Louisville.

Dodson’s goals for the library include finishing the Living Library, continuing the growth of library services and collections, and examining library policies and procedures.

Women’s business conference to be held

The fourth annual Southwest Colorado Women’s Business Conference with the theme “Women Redefining Business” will take place July 12.

The conference will feature Christina Hazon as the keynote speaker who will speak about sustainable leaders. The conference will include 12 breakout sessions, a Women’s Entrepreneur Panel, and a networking reception. One breakout session will be presented by Colorado Insurance Exchange and will cover health-insurance options available through the exchange.

Free presentation on hyperbarics today

Lloyd Decker D.C. will give a free presentation about “The Hyper Healing of Hyperbarics” at 6 p.m. today at Body of Work, 679 East Second Ave., Unit 10.

This presentation will discuss how hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a safe and effective way to treat a variety of health conditions including neurological issues, fibromyalgia and chronic pain, brain injury, surgical recovery and more.

Lunch & Learn focuses on retirement

The Durango Chamber of Commerce will host a Lunch & Learn, “The High Performance 401(k): How to Choose or Improve Your Company’s 401(k) Plan,” at noon June 26 at First National Bank of Durango, 259 W. Ninth St.

Paul Gervais with GMA Advisors will lead the presentation. The cost is $10 for chamber members and $20 for nonmembers. The presentation is designed to provide businesses with retirement plan best practices including: considerations for choosing the right 401(k) plan platform; recommendations of plan investment management and selection techniques; and understanding employee plan participation and costs.
