Discount Tire opens first Durango location

Discount Tire announces the opening of a new tire store at 1175 South Camino del Rio.

Discount Tire will offer customers free winter tire change out at its Durango tire store. The new retail location seeks qualified individuals to join the company. Hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Floral Expression opens in Bayfield

Hiedi Lewis has opened Floral Expression at 271½ N. Mountain View Drive, Bayfield, and shares space with Studio Sellke, Art Gallery & Gifts.

Lewis offers full floral services including fresh cut flowers, plants and custom arrangements. She specializes in weddings, banquets and special events. The store will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Clayton Richter earns certification

Southern Ute Community Action Programs Inc. and Road Runner Transportation announce that Clayton Richter, Road Runner Transit division director, has recently been certified by the Community Transportation Association of America as a certified community transit manager.

CCTM status marks the greatest performance and highest efficiency in the community transportation industry. People who receive the certification are recognized for specific skills they have acquired through experience, education and professional development, and the results of a written examination. The program evaluates transit managers in human resources, finance, operations and development of transit programs. This program is the first of its kind in the community transit industry.

Richter oversees all Road Runner Transportation operations, including travel between Ignacio and Durango, Bayfield and Durango, and Ignacio and Aztec, New Mexico, Dial-A-Ride service in and around Ignacio, and intercity bus service between Durango and Grand Junction.

Pediatric Partners adds doctor

Pediatric Partners of the Southwest announces the addition of board-certified pediatrician Dr. David MacLaurin.

MacLaurin completed his residency training at Children’s Hospital of Colorado and is a graduate of the College of William and Mary with a medical degree and master’s in public health from Eastern Virginia Medical School. MacLaurin has a special interest in taking care of newborns and young children, as well as all aspects of general pediatrics.

Physical therapist passes board exam

Rakita Tomsic Physical Therapy, a Durango based Orthopedic Physical Therapy clinic, announces Laura Wenger, physical therapist, has passed her board exam and received her board certification as orthopedic clinical specialist. This national board certification is received through The American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, which accredits those in the profession with an “Advanced Level of Clinical Competence” in Orthopedic Physical Therapy.

ABPTS certifies individuals who have demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and skills in physical therapy specialty areas.

After graduating with a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Utah in 2013, Wenger extended her studies and is a 2014 graduate of the physical therapy orthopedic residency program at the University of Utah Orthopedic Center. She spent her first year there as a physical therapist in focused clinical practice, didactics and teaching roles to expand her knowledge in orthopedic care of musculoskeletal injuries and disorders.

Preceded by Ellen Tomsic, Wenger is the second residency-trained physical therapist in Durango.

Bank donates fitness equipment

Four Corners Community Bank donated several pieces of electronic and free-weight fitness equipment to the Ute Mountain Tribe’s Ute Mountain Recreation Center.

The equipment had been stored unused and in good condition since Four Corners Community Bank acquired Citizen State Bank in Cortez in 2013. The donated equipment includes two treadmills, a stationary bike, a full set of dumbbells, weight benches and a medical-grade scale.
