Region 9 loan panel announces addition
Derek Farrah, a Pagosa Springs resident and accountant, has joined the Region 9 Economic Development District’s Business Loan Fund Committee.
Farrah works with Wilson, Rea, Beckel & Associates and moved to Pagosa Springs in 1992. Farrah was educated in Zimbabwe and South Africa. Farrah will fill an Archuleta County position.
The Loan Committee is composed of two representatives from each of the five counties in southwest Colorado, plus two at-large positions with at least one person with loan-making experience, one person with an accounting background, one person with a real estate background and two with a background in business. The term on the loan committee is two years, but there is no limit to the number of terms a committee person may serve.

VOORMI winner of Wright Award
VOORMI, an innovator of domestically sourced, precision-blended wool, has been named the winner of the 2013 Something Independent Wright Award.
VOORMI was among 14 contending Colorado companies to present its story to a panel of judges in Denver. Contenders were charged with creating a 90-second video to convey the company’s core business proposition, vision and to explain how Colorado has influenced its inception, culture and growth. VOORMI’s winning video illustrated the brand’s entrepreneurial vision to create small batch, handcrafted, technical clothing manufactured in the United States using wool sourced exclusively from the Rocky Mountains. VOORMI’s line of base-layers and mid-layers will hit shelves in November.

Region 9 announces new board members
The Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado announces that Erin Dunavant and Norm Jones have recently joined its board of directors.
Dunavant is the finance director for the town of Bayfield. She will represent Bayfield. Jones is the executive dean for Southwest Colorado Community College and he was selected to fill an at-large seat.
Region 9 is a public/private partnership that promotes and coordinates economic development efforts in five Colorado counties. The Region 9 board of directors is comprised of representatives from the 17 local governmental jurisdictions and nine members from the private sector. The next board meeting will be Jan. 23.

Region 9 board votes, elects slate of officers
The Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado’s Board of Directors have elected these officers for its next year: Dan Fernandez will serve as chairman; Willy Tookey, vice chairman; Robert Kunkel, secretary; and Laurie Sigillito, treasurer.
Fernandez is a retired CSU Extension agent who resides in Dolores County. Tookey is the administrator of San Juan County. Kunkel is the business development manager for the city of Durango, and Sigillito is the owner of FAST SIGNS Durango and FASTFORWARD Media.

Durango Rocks awards seeks nominations
The Durango Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the awards that will be presented at the “Durango Rocks” annual awards ceremony scheduled for Jan. 23 at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College.
Nominations are being sought for the awards of Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Nonprofit of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Young Professional of the Year, the Leadership La Plata “Barbara Conrad Award” and the Morley Ballantine Award. The deadline to nominate is Nov. 18.
