Spaaah Shop announces promotion
The Spaaah Shop & Day Spa, 934 Main Ave., announces the promotion of Rowan Blaisdell to spa manager.
Blaisdell has worked at the Spaaah Shop for the last year as a massage therapist. In addition to his national certification in massage therapy, he brings 17 years of marketing and development experience. The spa also will introduce a new blog, social-media posts and a monthly newsletter.

Jim Shoultz earns Elks designation
Jim Shoultz, trustee chairman of Durango Elks Lodge No. 507, has been designated “Officer of the Year 2013-2014.”
The award is conferred for dedicated meritorious service to the lodge, unselfish commitment and cheerful enthusiasm in furthering and fulfilling Elks’ programs.
Elks invest in their communities through programs that help children grow healthy and drug-free, by undertaking projects that address unmet needs and by honoring the service and sacrifice of veterans. The elks have several charity events, dances, dinners and open houses throughout the year.

Humane Society to hold annual meeting
The La Plata County Humane Society will hold its 2014 annual meeting from 10:30 a.m. to noon May 10 at the shelter, 1111 South Camino del Rio.
Three vacancies on the board of directors will be filled at the annual meeting. A list of the nominees for these three positions and a copy of the meeting agenda can be viewed at www.lpchumanesociety.org.
Annie Phenix joins Durango Dog College
Certified Professional Dog Trainer Annie Phenix, owner of Phenix Dog Training, has joined a team of professional dog trainers at the Durango Dog College.
Phenix is a member of the group of trainers at The Pet Professional Guild, and she is a member of the National Association of Canine Scent Work. She’s also a columnist who writes about dogs for Dogster.com and BARKS magazine. Her specialty is canine behavior, and she works with aggressive/reactive dogs, teaching behavioral modification skills in a force-free manner to dogs and their owners. She also holds clicker-training classes Saturdays at the Durango Dog College for puppies and adult dogs.
The Durango Dog College is an umbrella organization that hosts professional and nationally certified dog trainers. Traci Moriarty founded the college in 2012, and she operates her own training company called Wag Between Barks that also trains at the center. Daisy Dickson is an Animal Behavior College student mentoring under Moriarty. She will be working toward her CPDT-KA over the next year.

Chamber to host Business After Hours
Durango Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. May 8 at Best Western Rio Grande, 400 East Second Ave.
The cost is $7 for chamber members and guests. The event will include food provided by Gazpacho Restaurant, full bar and live music.
Girls Gone Golfing set for June 6
Girls Gone Golfing VIII will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 6 at Hillcrest Golf Course.
The event will include a light breakfast, beginner’s golf clinic, skills challenge, chair massages, lunch, a nine-hole scramble and prizes. Gifts will be given to all attendees plus door prizes. The cost is $30 for Durango Chamber of Commerce members and $50 for nonmembers.
