Tafoya Barrett and Associates, a certified public accounting firm, has announced the addition of Kayla Tomlinson to the firm.
Tomlinson grew up in Ignacio and graduated magna cum laude from Fort Lewis College with a bachelor’s in accounting. She previously worked for a regional CPA firm in Colorado Springs.

Durango native Ryne Waggoner has been named staff engineer at La Plata Electric Association.
He will help plan and provide for increased distributed generation and assist in system quality control.
Waggoner previously worked for Lockheed Martin’s space systems division in Denver for five years. He earned his mechanical engineering degree from Colorado State University at Fort Collins, and a master’s degree in mechatronics from the University of Denver.

Unemployed adults aged 55 and older who would like to find employment are encouraged to apply.
Seniors will be placed in part-time work experience assignments that will enhance opportunities for future employment.
The program is currently accepting applications in La Plata, Montezuma, Archuleta, Rio Grande, Conejos and Saguache counties.

Charley Kier has joined Paul Root at Academy Mortgage Corp. as a mortgage loan officer.
Kier, who has 25 years of lending experience, moved to Durango in 1997 after graduating from the University of Colorado and starting his career on the Front Range.
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has announced a $186,140 award to the State of Colorado through the agency’s competitive State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) to support export growth among Colorado small businesses.
