Girls Gone Golfing deadline approaches

Girls Gone Golfing will host its 10th annual event from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 3 at the Hillcrest Golf Club, 101 Sanborn Place.

The day will includes gifts, door prizes and a nine-hole scramble. Tickets are $40 for Durango Chamber of Commerce members and $55 for non-members. Proceeds will go to the Fort Lewis College women’s golf team.

Financial services firm opens in Durango

Bonnie Rozean announces the opening of Rozean & Co. in Durango.

Rozean & Co. provides financial management services to nonprofit organizations and small businesses. Her background includes serving as deputy treasurer and deputy public trustee for Grand County.

After moving to Durango in 2009, Rozean worked as the finance manager at 4CORE, the Four Corners Office for Resource Efficiency. In August 2015, she took a post at Conservation Legacy where she is currently working part time as grants administrator.

Real estate firm holds a food drive

On Thursday, Keller Williams Realty associates around the world donated hundreds of thousands of hours to giving back to their local communities during RED Day.

Short for Renew, Energize and Donate, RED Day is a global day of service and volunteerism for 710 offices and 130,000 Keller Williams associates.

In Durango, associates with Keller Williams Realty held a community food drive to benefit the Durango Food Bank.

More than 2,600 pounds of groceries was collected and delivered. Keller Williams also had a team of volunteers at the Durango/La Plata Senior Center gardening, planting containers, weeding and trimming.

LPEA hosts annual golf tournament

La Plata Electric Association will host its annual golf tournament at the Pagosa Springs Golf Course on June 18. Space is limited, and the registration deadline is June 15.

Organized by LPEA’s line personnel, members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (Local IBEW 111 26A) based in Pagosa Springs, the LPEA Golf Tournament is open to all community members, and this year it will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

The tournament is a four-person scramble, with four flights beginning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start, rain or shine. Entry fee is $65 per person, which includes lunch, golf cart, prizes and more.

The field will be limited to 36 teams. Hole sponsorships are available for $150, $500 and $1,000, and independent donations are welcome.

Cash or checks (made payable to the “Brotherhood Fund”) will be accepted via mail to LPEA, P.O. Box 305, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147, or in person at LPEA’s Pagosa Springs office, 603 S. Eighth St. Credit cards will not be accepted

Tim Maher joins Wells Fargo Advisors

Tim Maher has joined the Durango office of Wells Fargo Advisors as associate vice president – investments. He was previously a financial adviser with Edward Jones and Kemper Securities.

Maher has 24 years of experience in the financial services industry. A resident of Durango, Maher earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Villanova University.

Computer-users forum examines health

A Lunch & Learn will take place at the First National Bank of Durango, 259 W. Ninth St., at noon May 25.

The owner of Spa Evo, Jennifer Prosser, will give a presentation on staying healthy and pain-free at your computer.

The cost is $10 for Durango Chamber of Commerce members and $20 for non-members. Tickets include lunch catered by Schlotsky’s.

Regional tech talent forum will be May 24

The Colorado Technology Association, Colorado Workforce Development Council and Colorado Community College System are hosting a series of technology forums across the state to build a stronger tech talent pipeline.

The southwest forum has been scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Strater Hotel in Durango on May 24. The purpose is to provide an opportunity to talk about workforce concerns to representatives from the state workforce, technology and community college system.

At the meeting will be Thomas Hartman, Colorado Workforce Development Council; Wendy Nkomo, Colorado Technology Association; and Jen Jasinowski, Colorado Community College System.

At Monday’s La Plata Electric Association meeting, the board’s Executive Committee was elected.

Tutoring business announces new hire

Durango Academic Center announces a new tutor who will be providing one-on-one tutoring as well as leading summer Spanish camps.

Emily Hughes has a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from South Oregon University as well as speech language pathology assistant certification from the University of Colorado.

She enjoys providing academic support in writing, reading, social studies, Spanish, study and organizational skills, as well as homework support. She will be leading the center’s summer Spanish camps June 6 to 17 with native speaker and Spanish tutor Liliana Hernandez.

First National Bank adds to its team

The First National Bank of Durango announces three new hires.

Elizabeth McEachron joins the team as an event and marketing coordinator. She is originally from Seattle and graduated from the University of Montana. She has been living in the area for the last 14 years.

Annette Gallegos joins the team as a construction loan officer. She is fourth-generation from Ignacio and attended San Juan College. She has almost 30 years of banking experience.

Rick Hoover joins the bank as a mortgage loan manager/originator. He is originally from Joplin, Missouri, but recently moved to Durango from Las Vegas. He graduated from Missouri State University with a bachelor’s degree in finance.

Axis Health welcomes Dr. Larry Slaughter

Axis Health System welcomes Larry Slaughter to succeed Victor Lopez as its new medical director.

Slaughter comes to Axis from Missouri where he gained more than 24 years of emergency medicine and urgent care experience, and 23 years of leadership, legislative and administrative experience in a variety of health care settings.

A board-certified family practice physician, Slaughter is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Know Your Dough hosts fundraiser

Know Your Dough, a nonprofit bringing financial literacy classes to local youths and young adults in La Plata County, will be hosting its second annual Guest Bartender Fundraising event from 5 to 7 p.m. June 1 at the Red Snapper, 144 E. Ninth St.

Melissa Youseff and Jay Ciotti will be behind the bar serving up drinks, with proceeds directly benefiting the programs presented to area schools.
