Mercy receives CAT scanning accreditation

Mercy Regional Medical Center was recently awarded a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology.

Computed tomography scanning – sometimes called CAT scanning – is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions. The gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded to facilities meeting practice guidelines and technical standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Mercy also is accredited in the diagnostic imaging modalities of mammography, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging.

AirCare provides around-the-clock transport for critically ill or injured patients in the Four Corners to prompt medical care. The service, which consists of a helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft, was evaluated by the commission’s accreditation standards and criteria to measure a program’s level of quality, patient care and safety. Aircraft, maintenance, facilities, program personnel, management, operations, equipment and supplies are reviewed.
