Local First hires Anne Dickson

Local First has engaged Anne Dickson to be its sales manager in charge of new memberships and the 2014 Be Local Coupon Book.

Local First is a nonprofit organization comprised of 220 locally owned, independent businesses and organizations in La Plata County. The grass-roots organization supports locally owned, independent businesses through marketing programs, events and promotion.

Dickson has lived in Durango since 1992, and, in 1999, she opened A.D. Design LLC. A.D. Design is a full-service advertising agency, assisting businesses and individuals with marketing needs. Dickson will continue the full operation of A.D. Design while serving as the Local First sales manager.

Southwest Auto Center opens in Durango

New Country Auto Center in Cortez has expanded and opened a new business in Durango, Southwest Auto Center at 1025 Camino del Rio.

The auto center is owned by Nancy and Bob Ariano, who are the owners of New Country Auto Center in Cortez. The business offers pre-owned vehicle sales and service, and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The business purchases vehicles as well as finds vehicles.

LPEA offers lighting workshop

La Plata Electric Association will host “Basics of Bulbs, Understanding New Lighting Technology” from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 22 at the co-op’s headquarters in Bodo Industrial Park in Durango.

The workshop will feature a presentation about energy-saving strategies from Dave Warner of Centauri Sales. Topics will include LED lighting, occupancy sensing, dimming and daylight harvesting.

LPEA offers a variety of rebates to residents and businesses that invest in new energy-efficient lighting. The rebates will be reviewed during the workshop.

People interested in learning about energy saving are invited. Lunch will be served. People wishing to attend should RSVP to Ray Pierotti at rpierotti@lpea.coop or call him at 382-7770.
