Therapist completes new credentials

Lynn Philippon, owner and therapist at True Therapeutic Massage, has successfully received credentials to become a certified lymphedema therapist through the Dr. Vodder School International.

Components of certification include competency and proficiency in the techniques of manual lymphatic drainage and combined decongestive therapy. Manual lymphatic drainage is used to treat swelling associated with injury or surgery. MLD can promote wound healing, detoxify the body while decongesting tissues and help stimulate the immune system.

Combined decongestive therapy is used to manage primary and secondary lymphedema. The components of CDT are manual lymphatic drainage, compression therapy (compressive bandaging and garments), remedial exercise and skin care with self-management education.

Region 9 announces new board member

The Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado announces the addition of Andrea Phillips to its board of directors.

Phillips is the administrator for the town of Mancos. She grew up in central Ohio and received a degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder and has a dual master’s degree from Ohio State University in public policy and management and city and regional planning.

She serves as treasurer of the Southwest Colorado Council of Governments, is on the Montezuma Community Economic Development Association, volunteers with the Mancos Trails Group and Mancos Valley Historical Society and is a current participant in Leadership Montezuma.

Region 9 is a public/private partnership that promotes and coordinates economic development efforts in five Colorado counties. For more information, call 247-9621.

Chamber to host Lunch & Learn

Durango Chamber of Commerce will host a Lunch & Learn called “Facebook for Business” at noon Feb. 26 at First National Bank of Durango, 259 W. Ninth St.

The topic will be presented by Lindsay Nyquist, social media coordinator at Fort Lewis College. The program will examine creating a strategy to guide content and look at which content is successful on social media. Participants will look at examples of using Facebook as a customer-service tool and monitoring a brand on social networks. Participants are invited to bring a laptop.

Chamber to host Business After Hours

The Durango Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 21 at Advantage Physical Therapy & Wellness, 3600 Man Ave., Suite A.

The cost is $7 for chamber members and guests. There will be food, drinks and door prizes.

Adult day care announces new hire

Adult day care at Our Place has selected Michelle Schramko as its new program assistant.

Schramko began her new position in December 2013. She worked at Hardin (formerly Alpine) Hospice and Home Health in Durango for several years before joining Our Place.

Schramko is a licensed nurse and brings many years of experience taking care of hospice, Alzheimer’s, stroke and disabled patients. Before moving to Durango in 2011, she worked in Anchorage, Alaska, as a nurse manager at Medical Staffing Solutions and as a licensed patient caregiver and supervisor at Providence Extended Care Center.

Coffee & Conversation to be held Friday

The BID Coffee & Conversation hosted by the Durango Business Improvement District will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Durango City Hall, 949 East Second Ave.

The main topic will be a look at what’s new in the district. All BID constituents, including those on north Main Avenue, are encouraged to attend.

The BID Coffee & Conversation formerly was known as What’s Up Downtown. In advance of the meeting, Tim Walsworth is collecting event information. Organizers who wish to inform attendees of their upcoming events are asked to email timw@downtowndurango.org by end of business Tuesday.
