Chamber to host Tuesday Talk
Durango Chamber of Commerce will host Tuesday Talk at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday at Carver Brewing Co., 1022 Main Ave.
This will be a casual networking event where participants can share customer service and employee-retention ideas.

Durango Arts Center awarded state grant
Durango Arts Center has received a matching grant from Colorado Creative Industries, a division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade.
The grant was awarded through the industries’ Colorado Creates Program and will support the development of greater arts education and enhanced programming at the center.
This grant signifies that the center provides quality programs, community service and administrative ability.
DAC is a nonprofit arts organization providing Durango and surrounding communities opportunities to create, promote and participate in arts experiences through in-house educational art programs, exhibits and performing art.

Marketing series to be offered at library
The Durango Chamber of Commerce and Fort Lewis College professor and marketing guru Simon Walls will present a series of six marketing sessions designed specifically for local businesses.
The classes will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 1, 8, 15 and 29 and Nov. 12 and 19 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
The cost for all six classes is $150 for chamber members and $200 for nonmembers. Individual classes are available for $30 for chamber members and $40 for nonmembers. Reservations are required.

Food protection training available
The Colorado State University Extension Office in La Plata County is accepting applications for the 2013 ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Training program.
ServSafe is a comprehensive food-safety training for food-service managers and fits state requirements for cottage foods producers.
The class will take place from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 9 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 10 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave. The cost is $150, which includes the ServSafe manager book and certification exam. There is a $95 fee for each additional business associate employed at the same location. ServSafe requires an additional $35 fee to take the exam online, and this must be arranged in advance.
The class will be offered only in fall and late spring in the Four Corners.
Preregistration and payment are required and must be received no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Accelerator program seeks entrepreneurs
The Southwest Colorado Accelerator Program for Entrepreneurs is accepting applications for the next group of candidates.
The program’s objective is to create more high-growth, job-creating companies. The program focuses on emerging growth companies and provides them with funding, education and mentoring to prepare them to enter markets, raise capital and increase success. Any industry or idea will be considered, but the focus of the program is on businesses whose primary markets will be outside of Southwest Colorado.
Finalists will receive up to $30,000 in equity capital, along with free office space and discounted business services. They also will receive mentorship. At the end of the four-month program, there will be a presentation given by finalists to potential follow-on investors.
Applications are available at www.goscape.org. Applicants also will be asked to submit a short video. Application deadline is mid-November. The second program will kick off in mid-January.
