Bank of San Juans announces promotions
Bank of the San Juans has promoted Lori Sadira to vice president and manager of the bank’s Real Estate Department, and Krista Schwettman has been named a vice president.
Sadira has served as a mortgage lending specialist for the bank since 2010. In her new role, she will oversee in-house mortgage lending as well as originating mortgages for the secondary market. She has more than 14 years of local mortgage-lending and banking expertise. She founded and operated an independent mortgage brokerage. She also has 25 years of business experience in related fields, including real estate development accounting.
Schwettman has been with Bank of the San Juans for four years, first as a customer service representative, then as assistant branch manager and for the last 1½ years as assistant vice president and branch manager of the downtown Durango office. A Durango native, she worked for several years at Enterprise Bank and Trust in Massachusetts before returning to her hometown. Schwettman attended both the University of Massachusetts and Fort Lewis College.

Chamber to host Eggs and Issues
Durango Chamber of Commerce: Eggs and Issues will feature “What’s Up in Western Colorado: A CLUB 20 Update” at 8 a.m. Feb. 13 at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.
CLUB 20 is a nonpartisan coalition with individual, business and local-government members from 22 counties on the Western Slope working to develop policies to promote the region. Participants will learn about CLUB 20 advocacy efforts, how to focus on issues critical to the Western Slope and how to add a voice in shaping the future.
The cost is $16 for chamber members and $21 for nonmembers.

Human resource managers to meet
Durango Human Resource Managers will discuss “Optimal Behavioral Health for La Plata County” on Feb. 12.
The discussion is sponsored by registered nurse Jaynee Fontecchio-Spradling of the Citizens Health Advisory Council, and Jenny Treanor and will present the council’s Wellness Initiative.
Wellness means overall well-being. It incorporates the mental, emotional, physical, occupational, intellectual and spiritual aspects of a person’s life.
Participants should come prepared to offer insights and opinions about how this topic affects their workplace.
The cost of the luncheon is $10 with box-lunch sandwich, wrap and salad choices from Hot Tomatoes Catering.

Collaboration of Caring Communities to meet
The Collaboration of Caring Communities is gathering input for a La Plata County behavioral health project and needs thoughts and ideas.
Interested people are invited to join collaboration members from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds Extension Building, 2500 Main Ave. The discussion will be about well-being, mental health and responsible substance use for all, especially youths in the community.

Health center names student intern
The Southwestern Colorado Area Health Education Center announces Fort Lewis College student Madyson Wellcome as program intern for the 2014 spring semester.
Wellcome will assist the center staff on several projects, with emphasis on the upcoming Summer Health Careers Camp. She will provide support for pre-event planning, sponsor solicitation and organization of volunteer chaperones for the camp. The camp, to be held in June, will provide area high school students the opportunity to explore health careers.
Wellcome is a senior at FLC and is expected to graduate in May with a degree in public health. She is a four-year varsity player for the FLC women’s soccer team.
The center is a nonprofit organization in Southwest Colorado that focuses on improving access to quality health care in eight counties: Archuleta, Dolores, Hinsdale, La Plata, Montezuma, Ouray, San Juan and San Miguel.
