Knit One, Pearl Street moves locations

Knit One, Pearl Street, formerly in downtown Bayfield, has moved to 480 Wolverine Drive, No. 2C.

The shop is north of U.S. Highway 160 in the Bayfield Center Plaza next to BAKED. An open house will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 9 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 10. The shop offers quality yarn as well as friendly and helpful staff. It will celebrate its ninth year of business this year.

Author to speak on customer service

The Durango Chamber of Commerce has partnered with ConocoPhillips and First National Bank of Durango to bring business author Jeff Beals to Durango for a customer-service event May 20 at the Henry Strater Theatre, 699 Main Ave.

Check-in and continental breakfast will take place at 8 a.m. The keynote speech will begin at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $25 for chamber members and $35 for nonmembers. In this presentation, Beals will demonstrate how companies thrive when they put their customers’ interests before their own. People will learn the eight keys to understanding clients as guests, how to build long-lasting customer trust and how to determine what those customers truly value.

KOA to host fundraiser event

The Durango KOA Campground will offer a free night of camping May 10 as part of Kampgrounds of America’s annual KOA Care Camps Big Weekend.

Campers who stay as paying guests May 9 will receive a free night of camping May 10. The Care Camps Big Weekend event is the major fundraiser for KOA Care Camps, the official charity of Kampgrounds of America and the KOA Owners Association. Donations raised during the weekend will go to benefit KOA Care Camps, a network of 55 specialized, medically equipped summer camps throughout North America that offer children battling cancer a true summer camp experience at no charge to their families.

Chamber offers pilot program with GOBIG

The Durango Chamber of Commerce has partnered with GOBIG, Inc. on a pilot program, which will provide its members an opportunity to receive customer data and business analytics while allowing access to reliable, high-speed Internet.

Merchants are able to benefit by building up their customer list and sending timely updates, offers and marketing. The partnership program will last for 90 days and is free to the first 30 members.

iClean My Durango event to be held

The iClean My Durango event will take place from 8:45 to 11:30 a.m. May 23 in downtown Durango.

Volunteers will meet at the chamber tent located next to Keller Williams, 700 Main Ave., at 8:45 a.m. for their assignments. The event will feature free coffee, doughnuts, gloves and T-shirts. Local businesses and organizations are asked to provide volunteers to help clean downtown.

Alpine Bank announces a new online service for businesses and nonprofits interested in taking donations and payments via the Internet.

The payment portal, AlpineRemote Online Payments, allows businesses to accept one-time or recurring payments from the bank’s Web page. The portal is customized with the logo, colors and verbiage of the host’s website. All sensitive customer information is stored on a secure server. This service provides an additional option for customers to pay their bills online. The payments or donations are automatically deposited into any designated Alpine Bank account. Payments can be received from debit cards, credit cards or checks.
