Waterfall Spa opens on Waterfall Ranch
Kristi Zink has opened Waterfall Spa.
The spa, located on Waterfall Ranch in the Animas Valley, has four waterfalls on the ranch. The sound of water often is audible during massages, and in summer months, treatments are available in the portico by the largest waterfall. The spa offers the highest quality massages, guided meditations and skin treatments.
Zink is grateful to open this business on Waterfall Ranch, which has been in her family since 1917. She includes seasonal herbs and flowers grown on the land in treatments. She has been a massage therapist for 11 years and specializes in deep-tissue, neuromuscular therapy, Swedish, hot-stone and sports massage.
Zink has a master’s degree in transpersonal psychology from Naropa University. She is a grief counselor and leads support groups, as well as utilizing both her massage and counseling skills volunteering for Hospice of Mercy.

La Plata youths pair with senior services
La Plata Youth Services announced its new partnership with The Senior Community Service Employment Program.
Senior Community Service Employment Program is an organization that is committed to improving the quality of life for low-income, financially eligible seniors by assigning them to temporary, subsidized paid training and assisting them in their search for unsubsidized jobs in their community. Senior Community Service Employment Program is the steward of federal funds, appropriated to recruit, train and place eligible seniors in subsidized employment.
La Plata Youth Services currently is looking for one senior citizen to train there as part of the Senior Community Service Employment Program, which trains seniors for gainful employment opportunities. The participant will be paid to train through funding from the United States Department of Labor. La Plata Youth Services seeks someone who is interested in learning clerical skills.
Applicants must be at least 55 years of age, currently unemployed and be on a limited income to participate. Wages and benefits are provided by SER Jobs For Progress.

Contractors Yard Sale to be held June 20
The Home Builders Association of Southwest Colorado will host its Contractors Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 20 at Three Springs in the park in front of 175 Mercado.
Donations of construction materials or remodeling articles removed but in saleable shape will be accepted. The proceeds of this event will be shared with Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County. Donations of gently used building materials or household fixtures can be dropped off at Alpine Lumber, Lewis Mercantile in Bayfield, or ProBuild.

Chamber to host Lunch & Learn
The Durango Chamber of Commerce will host Lunch & Learn on the topic of “Business Etiquette” at noon June 24 at First National Bank, 259 W. Ninth St.
The program will be presented by Emily Spencer with the Strater Hotel. The presentation will be especially effective for sales, banking, real estate and relationship-driven professionals who seek to build relationships with their customers in a lasting and meaningful way. Participants will learn the etiquette for business entertainment, including cellphone strategies, conversation starters and manners during a business meal and alcoholic beverage do’s and don’ts. The cost is $10 for chamber members and $20 for nonmembers.

Matlock Furniture donates to education
Matlock Furniture & Mattress, a local, family-operated residential furniture store serving Southwest Colorado and Northwest New Mexico, has raised more than $5,500 in support of the Durango Education Foundation.
From May 4 to May 25, consumers were able to receive a discount on their total purchase of furniture and mattresses when they donated to La Plata County Schools. In total, Matlock Furniture & Mattress passed on savings of more than $23,000 to consumers while also donating to the foundation.
Throughout the year, Matlock Furniture & Mattress will continue to help benefit local schools with offers to consumers. The majority of donations will benefit Durango Education Foundation, and Matlock Furniture & Mattress also will donate to other La Plata County Schools at the request of any donating guest.

Durango Chamber of Commerce will host Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. June 18 at the Animas Museum, 3065 West Second Ave.
The event will feature “Taste of North Durango” featuring food and drink from North Durango establishments. There also will be costumed historic people in the galleries to speak about history and answer questions. The cost is $7 for chamber members and guests.
