Former Apple executive to speak at summit

Businessman and author Jay Elliot will present the keynote address at the La Plata Economic Alliance’s seventh annual Economic Summit, scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 23 at Sky Ute Resort in Ignacio.

Elliot, a former Apple executive, is expected to touch upon the principles of innovation and how an organization can sustain advancement. The presentation will complement this year’s theme, “Collaborate, INNOVATE and Grow Your Business!”

With more than 30 years of corporate operations experience, Elliot’s most notable tenure was from 1980 to ’86 when he served as senior vice president of Apple, reporting directly to Steve Jobs, chairman of the board. Elliot helped Jobs develop and introduce the Mac computer.

Elliot currently is CEO and founder of software company Nuvel Inc. Additionally, Elliot has worked with both the health-care and entertainment industries.

LPEA announces addition of linemen

Veteran journeyman linemen Bill Holtsford and Gregg Smith have joined the operations team at La Plata Electric Association.

Linemen are responsible for constructing and maintaining electric power transmission and distribution lines and facilities.

Elks announces veterans affairs officer

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Durango Lodge No. 507 announces that Don Ferris has taken the position of veterans affairs officer at the Durango Lodge.

Ferris is a member of Lodge 507 and is employed as a real estate agent in Durango. He is a three-tour Vietnam veteran.

The Elks provide support and financial assistance to veterans and all local agencies that support vets.
