Business After Hours to take place May 15

The Durango Chamber of Commerce’s May Business After Hours will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. May 15 at Caliber Home Loans, 835 East Second Ave., Suite 310.

There will be prizes, games, beer and wine. The cost is $7 for chamber members and guests.

Business expo begins at library

The Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave., will host free business workshops during the third annual “Gear Up for Summer” Small Business Expo.

The expo is scheduled to take place from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. Topics will include crowdfunding, effective marketing tools and branding. Door prizes and refreshments will be provided for all sessions. Seating is limited.

Bear Smart Durango receives funds

Bear Smart Durango, a local nonprofit, has received a $2,000 contribution from MercuryGives! to go toward Bear Smart’s Spring Bear Wake-Up Social to be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 6 at Rotary Park.

This fourth annual community event serves as a reminder to residents that bears are back among people and for all to continue Bear Smart practices in reducing human-bear conflict.

Land surveyors to meet Tuesday

The Southwest Chapter of the Professional Land Surveyors of Colorado will host its chapter meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Lightner Room of the La Plata County Fairgrounds Extension Building, 2500 Main Ave.

The guest speaker will be Michael Boeckman, Cadastral, surveyor for the Bureau of Land Management. Boeckman will speak about “Federal Authority Surveys from a Cadastral Surveyors Viewpoint.”

First National announces new hire

First National Bank of Durango announces that Olivia Gahr is the new drive-up teller at the Main Branch.

Gahr is from Chirvo Valley, Arizona and moved to Durango two years ago. She graduated from Chirvo Valley High School. She was previously with the Grocery Store in Bayfield before joining the bank.

DAC welcomes new board president

The Durango Arts Center welcomed Terry H. Stalker to the volunteer leadership role of president of the DAC board of directors in April.

She comes to DAC with diverse experience in nonprofit governance practice, as well as organizational, personnel and financial management skills for both nonprofit and for-profit organizations.

Currently an independent consultant for governance assessment and training of nonprofit organizations, Stalker is a member of the Colorado Nonprofit Association, Society for Nonprofit Organizations, and BoardSource. Locally, in addition to her service to DAC, she is a board member of Durango STEAM Park.

Stalker joined the current board of directors: Ginny Davis, vice president; Melanie McLean, treasurer; Allison Andersen, secretary; Sydney Morris; Marta Snow; John R. Edens; Margie Deane Gray and Tim Kapustka.
