Civil engineers to meet May 29
The Southwest Colorado Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. May 29 at The Irish Embassy Pub, 900 Main Ave.
The cost for dinner for members and guests will be $15 payable at the door. The presentation will be by Peter Butler who will discuss abandoned mine remediation projects in the upper Animas Basin, changes in water quality in the Animas and current efforts underway to improve water quality.
Region 9 awarded grant
U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet announces that the Region 9 Economic Development District in Southwest Colorado has won a $61,000 Economic Development District Planning grant from the Economic Development Administration to create a strategy to promote private investment and help create jobs in the region.
The Region 9 Economic Development District serves Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma and San Juan counties. This planning investment supports the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic-development strategy for the region.
The process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic-development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
