Economic-development group hires specialist
The Montezuma Community Economic Development Association announces the hiring of Chris Burkett for a new, part-time position.
Burkett will be responsible for advancing economic-development projects, referring businesses to available resources, navigating governmental processes and identifying bottlenecks to improve those processes and procedures.
Burkett has been a Montezuma County resident since 1978 and is a former Cortez Parks & Recreation director. He currently contracts as a grants administrator.

Montezuma group names new officers
The Montezuma Community Economic Development Association announces these new officers for the next year: Suzy Meyer, chairwoman; Bern Heath, vice chairman; Larry McGee, treasurer; and Susan Carver, secretary.
Meyer is former editor of the Cortez Journal and serves as an at-large member. Heath is chief executive officer of Axis Heath Systems and a business member. McGee is president of Citizens State Bank of Cortez and a business member. Carver is the Montezuma County planning director and a government member.
Association board has four openings
The Montezuma Community Economic Development Association announces four openings on its board of directors.
The board is open to all paid members and is comprised of five government, five business and five at-large seats. There currently are two at-large and two business seats open.
The new board members will be elected at the association’s community meeting from noon to 2 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Mancos Community Center. Lunch will be available for $12.

Karyn Gabaldon to offer Zumba instruction
Karyn Gabaldon has successfully completed her training as a Zumba instructor.
She will begin teaching a moderate-impact Zumba class in January at the Smiley Dance Studio. Beginners are welcome.
