First National Bank announce 3 new hires

First National announces these new hires:

Terri Hansen was hired as a mortgage-loan officer. She is from Green Bay, Wis. Hansen attended University of Webber, Utah; the University of Alaska in Kenai; and the U.S. Air Force. She started her mortgage career in 1995 in Pagosa Springs, and recently returned to Durango to pursue a career in the FHA residential mortgage arena.

Heidi Lloyd was hired as a mortgage assistant. She is from Hartford, Conn. Lloyd received a degree from Keene State College and attended Morse School of Business. Lloyd has an array of job experience ranging from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory to Directory Plus. Lloyd has been in Durango for nine years.

Cassidy McElroy was hired as a branch floating teller. She is from Castle Rock, where she lived until attending Fort Lewis College. McElroy received her degree from FLC in psychology and has a minor in criminology. She worked at Digs Restaurant before joining the bank. McElroy has lived in Durango for five years.

Chamber to host Business After Hours

The Durango Chamber of Commerce will host Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. June 20 at Vectra Bank, 1201 Escalante Drive.

The cost is $7 for chamber members and guests.

Accelerator program accepting applications

The Southwest Colorado Accelerator Program for Entrepreneurs is accepting applications for the first group of startup candidates to be accepted in the program.

The program’s objective is to support the creation and development of high-growth, job-creating companies, with national marketing plans, by offering an Accelerator Program which provides funding, education and intense mentoring. Successful completion of the program should provide these ventures the ability to enter markets and raise capital. SCAPE will run two Accelerator Programs per year, each of them four months long. Companies can apply for the upcoming program at www.goscape.org before June 28. A select group of candidates will be asked to present their idea in person, and up to four will be selected for the program that starts July 10.

The finalists will receive up to $30,000 to help build their company, along with free office space and discounted business services. They also will receive mentorship to help them address the specific challenges that they face in establishing and growing their company. At the end of the program there will be a presentation given by all finalists to potential follow-on investors.

Eggs and Issues to take place June 27

The Durango Chamber of Commerce will host an Eggs & Issues Breakfast at 8 a.m. June 27 at DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

The topic of the breakfast will be “Colorado Health Insurance Exchange ... What Employers need to know today!” Participants are encouraged to take a survey at http://survey.constantcontact.com/survey/a07e7j16diihgxuhoov/a012thhhzphpr. The answers received will help prepare the presentation.

5 local firms make state magazine’s list

Five local firms have made the annual Companies to Watch list compiled by Coloradobiz.

The firms are:

Audioair, a Durango-based technology firm that makes a smartphone app.

Chinook Medical Gear, a Durango-based medical products company that specializes in developing medical kits for harsh conditions.

Ecosphere, a Durango-based environmental-consulting firm.

Freenotes Harmony Park, a Durango-based firm that specializes in making giant outdoor musical instruments for parks, playgrounds and schools.

Montanya Distillers, a Silverton-based firm that crafts artisanal rum
