Snowdown elects new board member

Snowdown Durango announces the election of Pam Glasco to its board of directors.

Glasco will fill the vacancy left by Brad Kill, who is retiring from his position on the board after serving four three-year terms.

Glasco is community relations coordinator for the Business Improvement District.

Snowdown “Safari So Good” is scheduled for Jan. 29 through Feb. 2, 2014.

Entrepreneur to host workshop Thursday

Local entrepreneur Sarah Shaw will offer a workshop, “Retail Mogul: Four Steps to a $1 Million-Dollar Business,” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Smiley Building auditorium, 1309 East Third Ave.

The cost is $99 and includes workshop materials. Participants should bring a brown-bag lunch. All proceeds will benefit the Women’s Resource Center.

The workshop will cover: how to create persuasive catalogs, pitch letters and order forms to increase sales; step-by-step strategies to getting buyers; how to leverage the power of fame to promote products through movie placement; getting celebrities to talk and use products; and convincing national magazines to feature products in news stories.

Hot Tomatoes Café opens in library

The Durango Public Library is partnering with Hot Tomatoes Café to offer a variety of food and beverage items at the library, 1900 East Third Ave.

The new Hot Tomatoes satellite is open in the library lobby from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Hot Tomatoes will offer a selection of breakfast burritos, homemade baked goods, wraps, sandwiches and snacks, as well as coffee and espresso drinks.

Financial series to be held at library

The Durango Chamber of Commerce and Wells Fargo Bank will present a Financial Series led by CPA Sidny Zink, a shareholder with the accounting firm FredrickZink & Associates, from 8 to 9:15 a.m. the next three Tuesdays at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

The series is designed to help small-business owners who don’t have a CPA on staff gain a solid understanding of their finances. Topics will include income statements, balance sheets, working capital, cash flow, accrual vs. cash accounting, debt-to-worth and other key ratios, and tax implications and considerations. There will be time after each session to speak with CPAs and bankers.

The cost is $50 for chamber members and $75 for nonmembers and includes coffee and snacks. Reservations are required.

Chamber to host networking event May 7

The Durango Chamber of Commerce will host a “Tuesday Talk” at 7:45 a.m. May 7 at Carver Brewing Co., 1022 Main Ave.
