Pediatric Partners hires new pediatrician

Pediatric Partners of the Southwest announces the hiring of pediatrician Dr. Sandra Beirne.

Beirne graduated from the University of Montana and attended medical school at the University of Washington School of Medicine. After completing her pediatric residency at the University of Rochester in Rochester, N.Y., she went on to be pediatric chief resident there as well. After her residency, Beirne worked with the Indian Health Service at the Northern Navajo Medical Center Pediatrics Department and with several school-based health clinics in and around Shiprock, N.M., providing health care to all ages from birth through young adulthood.

Laura Marchino elected to Region 9 board

Laura Lewis Marchino, assistant director of Region 9 EDD of Southwest Colorado Inc. in Durango, was elected to the National Association of Development Organizations’ 2013-14 board of directors Aug. 27 at the organization’s annual business meeting in San Francisco.

The board oversees the association’s budget and operations and develops policy on issues affecting regional development organizations. The organization was founded in 1967 to provide training, information and representation for regional development organizations throughout the United States. Today, NADO member organizations serve local governments and the public within their regions through various programs focused on diversifying local economies, assisting businesses, creating jobs and providing social services. The board term will run through the annual business meeting, which is held during the association’s annual training conference that will take place in Denver Aug. 23-26, 2014.

Dental Associates of the Southwest announces that Nicklas Groskopf will retire at the end of December.

Rail Events Inc. announces new hires

Rail Events Inc. announces the addition of Jeff Johnson as director of operations/events development and Abi May as event coordinator/international sales representative.

Johnson was most recently project manager for Blackstone Models, where he worked since 2005. Much of his earlier career was spent in railroading, having worked for the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in the 1980s and 1990s in the mechanical and operating departments and then for Union Pacific as an engineer and then manager of operating practices in Denver.

Originally from England, May’s career has been mainly in tourism, hospitality and sales businesses, managing a yacht-charter company in Turkey, her own catering company in Granada, and she was in the British Virgin Islands, where she managed Marina Cay, an 8-acre resort off the coast of Tortola. May most recently worked at Durango Mountain Resort as concierge manager and special event coordinator.

4CORE to offer educational session

The Four Corners Office for Resource Efficiency announces an educational session for real estate agents, appraisers, contractors and interested community members with guest speaker, Peter Rusin from the Colorado Energy Office.

The session, “The Green MLS: Putting the Pieces Together in Your Market,” will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 15 at First National Bank of Durango, downstairs in the training room, 259 W.
