Morris and Llewellyn have more than 30 years combined experience in business, sales, promotions and marketing in Durango. Durango Olive Oil provides gourmet olive oils, balsamic vinegars, herb mixes, artisan salts, stuffed olives, spices and gifts. The store also carries many items made locally in the Durango area and gift baskets. Customers are given the opportunity to taste many of the products before purchasing. Nominations sought for tourism board
The Durango Area Tourism Office is accepting nominations for three open board of directors seats representing: transportation (three-year term), tourism related retail (two-year term) and restaurant (two-year term) segments of the Durango/La Plata County tourism industry.
The nominees must be active members of the appropriate local industry with operations based in Durango or La Plata County. The role of each board member is to provide insight, guidance and support to the tourism staff, to promote tourism in the community and to represent the various tourism-based constituencies on the board.

CDOT to host contractor event Jan. 14
The Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center, Colorado Contractors Association and the Small Business Transportation Resource Center for the West Central Region are cosponsoring a contractor event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Durango Maintenance Training Facility, 20581 U.S. Highway 160 West.
Lunch will be included, and reservations are requested. Prospective contractors will learn about contracts, subcontracts and consultant work available through the Colorado Department of Transportation. Opportunities in the area will be discussed regarding several city projects and construction jobs coming up in the spring and summer of 2014.

Colorado’s Procurement Technical Assistance Center will present a “Government to Business Outreach” from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 16 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
Participants will meet contract administrators and small business advocates with: U.S. Forest Service; CDOT and local purchasers; Bureau of Land Management; National Park Service; and Small Business Administration, Denver. People will learn to sell their products and services. The presentation is open to all business owners and economic development/community resource advocates.

Federal acquisition regulation discussed
“Understanding the Federal Acquisition Regulation” will be presented by Colorado Procurement Technical Assistance Center and Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
This series will examine the federal acquisition regulation and will provide an understanding of the set of rules behind federal procurement.
This is designed for the novice where presenters will break down the regulation and teach how to research the text which guides federal buyers in their procurement decisions.

Forest Service to host “Fire Fair”
A “United States Forest Service Fire Fair” will be presented by Colorado Procurement Technical Assistance Center, U.S. Forest Service and Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Forest Service Office, 15 Burnett Court.
The Forest Service is preparing contract support to help with the control of wildfires. Support functions such as food, water delivery and heavy equipment are needed.
