Caregiving, working to be discussed
“Being Committed to Caregiving While Staying Committed to Your Job” will be presented by Erin Youngblood with Evenings Porch Assisted Living and Yvetter Tanner of PASCO/Southwest Inc. at noon March 18 at the First National Bank of Durango, 259 W. Ninth St.
Participants will learn how to manage their job along with caregiving duties. The cost is $10 for Durango Chamber of Commerce members and $20 for nonmembers. Reservations are required.

Bear Smart Durango, a local nonprofit, has received a donation from Red Willow Production Co. as part of its corporate sponsorship program.

New team member at health practice

Small-business workshops offered
The Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center in conjunction with local area business partners will sponsor a Leading Edge Strategic Business Planning Series for new and experienced business owners and managers.
The course will begin March 14 and be held every other Saturday for five sessions, ending on May 9. Participants will master skills needed for starting, managing and growing a business wisely.
This course is appropriate for all business types, including agriculture and nonprofits.
Tuition will include 36 hours of instruction from qualified presenters, five hours of individual business counseling, workbook and printed materials, access to development center resources, opportunities to address individual needs and cash awards for top three business plans submitted.
Full tuition is $300 for the entire course or $50 per half-day session. Different topics will be discussed mornings and afternoons. Classes will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Colorado Welcome Center Conference Room, 928 E. Main St. in Cortez. Scholarships may be available.

Silverton Soulworks opens its doors
Silverton Soulworks, Silverton’s newest business, has opened its doors at 1212 Greene St. in the Benson Building.
The studio offers a variety of movement classes, massage and a rotating schedule of special events, workshops and classes. The weekly lineup currently includes everything from Pilates, kettlebells and circuit training to belly dancing and salsa, with yoga and Zumba classes coming soon. More creative offerings include “BrewAsana” – a quick après ski stretch session followed by a free beer – and “Cocktails and Canvas” art classes, the first of which is Friday. The space also is available to rent for weekend workshops, retreats and events. An open house and membership drive is scheduled to coincide with Cocktails and Canvas on Friday starting at 6:30 p.m.

Region 9 announces board members
The Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado announces two additions to its board of directors.
Ariel Wishkovsky and Dan Naiman have recently been added.
Wishkovsky is the business development coordinator for the city of Durango, and he will be representing Durango. Naiman is a planner for the town of Ignacio and will be the town’s representative. Both men were elected at Region 9’s quarterly board meeting, Jan. 29.
Region 9 is a public-private partnership that promotes and coordinates economic-development efforts in five Colorado counties. The next board meeting will be April 23.

Retail candy and specialty toy franchisor Fuzziwig’s Candy Factory Inc. announces a new store opening in Tucson, Arizona, at Park Place Mall, 5870 E. Broadway Blvd.
