Scenic Aperture announces opening
Scenic Aperture announced its opening at 708 Main Ave.
Scenic Aperture’s Durango gallery features fine-art nature photography of the Four Corners. The gallery showcases the photography of Durango photographer Frank Comisar. Scenic Aperture also provides photography workshops for amateur photographers of every skill level. On-location and classroom training is customized for each participant’s needs from fundamentals to advanced techniques of photography and digital post-processing.
The nature photography gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 385-5853.
Café of Life launches outreach program
In an effort to promote community and individual health and wellness, Dr. Haley Thompson owner of Café of Life Chiropractic, launched a community-outreach program dedicated to educating and creating awareness within the community about overall health and wellness.
The program – designed to reduce stress and increase productivity, motivation and energy levels – will offer several complementary educational programs to local businesses and community organizations for their employees and members. In addition to the educational seminar format, Café of Life Chiropractic has incorporated an energy break into the program. Take Five! offers a five-minute pressure-point massage and an opportunity for attendees to ask health-related questions and receive tips and information on various health issues.

Techstars executive will speak in Durango
Marc Nager, chief community officer with Techstars, will speak Friday at the Southwest Colorado Accelerator Program for Entrepreneurs Startup Showcase.
Nager has focused on building startup communities around the world through experiential programming.

United Way of Southwest Colorado announced that Ashley Merchant has joined the team as the community-engagement coordinator for La Plata and San Juan counties.
Merchant is a graduate student in the University of Denver Four Corners MSW program with a background in psychology and health-care design. She has a background in marketing and visual arts.

First National Bank of Durango announced these new hires:
Candy Heide joins the bank as the business banking officer at the Bayfield branch. She is originally from Minnesota, where she attended Bemidji State University and received a bachelor’s degree in math education.
Annette Schultheiss joins the bank as the senior lending assistant. She was born and raised in the New York City area, although she’s been living in Durango for more than 18 years.
Missy Raso returns to the bank as a mortgage processor at the main office. Originally from Grand Junction, Raso moved to Durango in 1984.
Svetlana Bunciuc is a new drive-up teller at the main office. She is originally from Moldova, Europe. She moved to Durango with her husband seven years ago.
Melody Sadler is a new lobby teller at the main office and will assist during the lunch hour. She moved to Durango more than three years ago from a small town in Utah.

Sage Health Care announces hire
Sage Health Care announces the addition of Maureen “Mo” Goldman, a certified nurse practitioner, to the new pelvic floor rehab program at Sage.
Goldman is uniquely qualified, bringing to Sage Health Care her expertise as a women’s health nurse practitioner; pelvic floor rehab qualifications and training (including coursework, a one-year mentorship program and board certification by the highly recognized International Alliance in Pelvic Muscle Dysfunction Biofeedback (BCB-PMD); and her years of experience performing pelvic floor rehab in collaboration with OB-GYN physicians in the Four Corners and New Mexico.
The pelvic floor rehab program utilizes specialized equipment to offer a nonsurgical, non-medication approach for treating bladder or bowl incontinence, prolapse or vaginal bulging, over-active bladder, pelvic and/or vaginal pain and rectal pain/constipation.

Human-resources leader hired at LPEA
Nadine Ontiveros has been named human-resources administrator at La Plata Electric Association.
Ontiveros is currently assisting LPEA Human Resources Director Linda Looman, with responsibilities including hiring and LPEA’s succession planning, setting up a new human-resources information system and organizing an internal wellness committee.
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Ontiveros immigrated with her family to Orange County, California at age 17.

Creature Comforts celebrates anniversary
Creature Comforts will celebrate its 31st anniversary with a free event from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at 305 South Camino del Rio.
Four Corners Broadcasting will have a live radio remote, and there will be drawings, door prizes, food and more. The La Plata County Humane Society, Annie’s Orphan’s, D-SNIP Spay & Neuter and Cat & Kitten Care of Southwest Colorado will have booths with dogs and cats available for adoption.
Creature Comforts is partnering with Sunnyside Farms and Zuberfizz to raise money for the animal rescues by selling burgers, brats and bottles of Zuberfizz at the event. Free ice cream cones will be available in the afternoon. Customers also will be able to donate their change by rounding up at the register. More than 20 pet food vendors and experts will be available to answer questions and give samples.
