Businesses earn good Samaritan chops

Recently, we came to Durango to shop and take in a movie. As we were leaving the quilting store on Highway 160, we discovered we had a flat tire – a really flat tire!

Driving someplace to have it fixed was not an option, but fortunately for us, the Jiffylube was located next door to the quilt shop. Even though tire repair is not what the company does, the staff members went out of their way to help. They took off the damaged tire to see if the problem was something they could fix, replaced the flat with our spare, and added air to the spare to be sure it was safe.

All of this was done quickly and with a smile.

When asked what we owed, the response was, “Nothing. We are glad we could help.”

We took the tire to Four States Tire & Service for a patch, but unfortunately, the damage was irreparable. Again, the employees of this store said, “No charge” when asked what we owed. At a time when being a good Samaritan is not the rule, it was refreshing to find not one business but two whose employees went out of their way to help strangers from out of town.

We encourage you to support these fine businesses, and again offer our thanks and our promise that we will pay it forward.
