Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera left today’s game against the Oakland Athletics with discomfort in his abdomen and is listed as day-to-day.
With two outs in the fifth, Cabrera hit a ball off the scoreboard in right-center field and started hobbling while running to second base. He slid awkwardly and was thrown out.
Manager Jim Leyland and head athletic trainer Kevin Rand met Cabrera halfway between second and third before removing him from the game.
He was 2-for-3 (on Thursday).
Cabrera has battled numerous injuries this season, including a hip flexor, abdominal strain and lower back pain. He has missed six games this year but has not missed one since Aug. 3.
Cabrera is in the hunt for his second consecutive Triple Crown with a .357 batting average, 43 home runs and 130 runs batted in.
