Calamity Jane film seeks extras for Durango shoot

Producers are looking for doppelgängers of Martha Jane Canary, aka Calamity Jane, at various points in the Western legend’s life for an upcoming docudrama. Filmmakers will shoot a portion of the program in the Durango area Sept. 4.

The French production company Temps Noir is filming a feature-length docudrama about the life of Calamity Jane for the Arté network. The company is looking for actors to fit the following roles during a shoot Sept. 4 in Durango:

Elderly Calamity Jane (must be available all-day Sept. 4): age 50s to 70s, brunette or dark hair, thin, wrinkled and weathered. During this period in her life, Calamity Jane was suffering from illness, and although she wasn’t that old, her face and body show the signs of a hard life. In particular, the producers seek people who have a lot of character in their face (weathered, wrinkled, sun spots, etc.).

Josephine Break (must be available the morning of Sept. 4, approximately 8 to 10 a.m.): age 30s to 40s, brunette or dark hair, Victorian professional “proper” lady of the times. Josephine Break was a journalist who came from New York City with the mission of bringing Calamity Jane back to the East.

Five or more period extras (must be available the afternoon of Sept. 4, approximately 1 to 6 p.m.): There will be a scene shot on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train, and period extras, males and females, all ages with a variety of different looks, are needed to help fill out the car. Re-enactors who may have their own costumes are preferred.

The roles are paid (rates will be discussed), and all actors must be locals in Durango as the production cannot provide housing. Also, inform the producers if you have any costumes available.

Casting will be Saturday in Durango via email. Those auditioning must be available to meet in the afternoon.

Send photos (profile, face and full-body) and a link to your show reel, if possible, to: seekcerda@yahoo.com and carole.reinhard@gmail.com.
