Campbell wins high jump for IHS

Perez collects multiple top 5 finishes

One's been said-or more familiarly in pop culture, sung-to be the loneliest number.

In track and field such a feeling might stem from the fact that on an awards podium, first place looks down upon everyone nearby.something to which Ignacio's Kelly Campbell, already physically taller than many of her fellow competitors at Wednesday's 2016 Pine River Invitational in Bayfield, could relate.

Able to top the bar at 4'7", the Bobcat junior turned in the highest of high jumps at the rescheduled gathering inside Wolverine Country Stadium, and in doing so earned IHS its only individual title. Freshman Kiana Valdez supported Campbell's effort well with her fourth-place 4'3".

In the 800-meter sprint medley relay, Bobcat juniors juniors Rachel Cooper, Jaylynn Herrera, Azala Perez and senior Chrystianne Valdez took fourth in 2:13.41, and the same personnel placed fifth in the 4x100 with a 58.55. Perez also scored big for the squad by taking third in the 100m dash in 13.80 seconds.

Lea Monroe (6'8") and Cooper (6'2") were both top-10 in the pole vault, finishing in seventh and ninth respectively, as was thrower Alana Watts in the shot put (seventh, 27'6.5").

Natoni Cundiff did similarly well on the boys' side, throwing the discus a fifth-place 113 feet, 11 inches, and forcing the shot 34'3" downrange for eighth. Sophomore John Valdez earned seventh in the 200 with a time of 25.64, and he took eighth in the 100, clocking 12.59.

Sophomore Mitchell Neil placed 11th in both the discus (72'6") and shot (28'5"), while Parker Smithson and Campbell each added another top-15 with Smithson's 15th-place long jump (15'3") and Campbell's 15th in the 100m dash (15.74).

Next for Ignacio will be tomorrow's 58th annual Bloomfield Invitational, to begin at 9 a.m.
