Canyons Alliance plans talk on wilderness areas

Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance will present “Wilderness 101: What Citizens Need to Know” at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the Anasazi Heritage Center, 27501 Highway 184, in Dolores.

Chris Barns, retired Bureau of Land Management wilderness representative at the Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center from 1999-2015, will be the presenter.

Barns plans to answer questions about wilderness study areas, how wilderness areas are designated and managed, and how decisions affect residents and land use.

While at the Carhart Training Center, Barns trained employees in four federal agencies in wilderness stewardship and was instrumental in writing BLM wilderness policies on managing wilderness and study areas.
