Fire and police officials responded to a crash between a sedan with New Mexico plates and a semi-truck with Idaho plates around 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the 45800 block of U.S. Highway 160, east of Bayfield and near the Archuleta County border.
The semi trailer, driven by Jason Jackman of Ukon, Idaho, was traveling east, and the sedan, driven by a female, was traveling west when the sedan collided into the truck’s driver’s side first set of dual tires.
Jackman was delivering a load of bridge materials and wood to Creede when the incident occurred.
Colorado State Patrol is conducting an investigation, and the incident was witnessed by law enforcement.
The eastbound lane on Highway 160 partially was blocked for a short time, but traffic resumed flowing in both directions.
Jackman said he was glad no one was hurt.
“I got out and hugged her,” he said. “Accidents happen. She’s alive, and that’s all that matters.”
No serious injuries were reported.
