A cyclist traveling south on County Road 240 was taken to the hospital Saturday after a car turning left onto Brookstone Court collided into her.
La Plata County Sheriff Deputy Sgt. Zach Farnam, who was on scene, said he did not know the extent of the cyclist’s injuries.
The driver, a man, looked shaken as the ambulance pulled away. He declined an interview with The Durango Herald.
Colorado State Patrol arrived shortly after noon to determine who was at fault.
The accident caused a major traffic jam on County Road 240, with as many as 30 cars backed up on either side of the accident while motorists waited for emergency workers to respond to the collision.
People emerged from neighboring houses, craning their necks to get a better look at what had drawn flashing blue and red lights to this particular section of a two-lane rural road.
Sgt. Farnam said he could not yet release the names of the cyclist or the driver.
