High school teens who are undecided about their career paths might receive a stroke of wisdom Thursday.
The San Juan Board of Cooperative Educational Services is hosting its PoWeR Career Fair, an event meant to promote post-secondary workforce readiness in students, at Fort Lewis College.
The event will run from 9:15 until 11:50 a.m.
The career fair will cater to six regional high schools and their chaperons. The schools in attendance will be Durango High School, Animas High School, Big Picture High School, Bayfield High School, Ignacio High School and Pagosa Springs High School.
“This career fair has the intention of being exploratory,” said Natalie Bertrand, post-secondary workforce readiness coordinator with San Juan BOCES.
The students will attend three of the 41 available panels that will be presenting simultaneously, she said.
The purpose of this career fair is to prepare these area students for life after high school, whether students decide to attend a two-year college, a four-year university of enlist in the military. The event is meant to provide options.
The panel-style career fair is broken up into several clusters, or categories. The students will sign up for panels based on their personal interests.
An estimated 1,600 students will be in attendance, along with 200 volunteers, which include panelists and moderators, Bertrand said.
