Senior forward Adison Jones scored 13 points in the first quarter, and finished with a game-high 20 last Thursday as Ignacio improved their pre-Christmas record to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the 2A/1A San Juan Basin League with a 66-31 defeat of Dolores inside SunUte Community Center.
"Jones came out ready to go and he seemed like he was a team leader," said head coach Chris Valdez. "He was everywhere defensively, he was finishing layups, had a couple assists in there.. Rebounding, he had a double-double with the rebounds today - I think he had 11 rebounds - and I liked that."
Junior center Nicholas Herrera scored 12 for the Bobcats, including two on a fourth-quarter breakaway dunk, and junior guard Anthony Manzanares booked nine.
In the night's preceding contest, IHS standout freshman Hilda Garcia was held to seven points, but the Bobcats also had no problem in downing Dolores, 61-29, behind reserve guard Avionne Gomez's 12.
"Avionne, as a freshman, is grasping the offense, the defense.her basketball IQ is really rising," head coach Shane Seibel said. "She's a pleasant surprise!"
Sophomore forward Alejandra Lujan netted 10 points and senior guard Sky Cotton notched nine as Ignacio improved to 4-2, 1-0.
