In a celebration of ranching and agricultural life, the La Plata-Archuleta Cattlemen Association held its annual banquet on Saturday, April 23 at Sky Ute Casino Resort in Ignacio.
Bruce Fassett, an Ignacio-area rancher, was named Cattleman of the Year.
Another highlight of the evening is the raffle and auction for two brand quilts. Wayne Cugnini and his family won this year's raffle quilt.
Instead of having a guest speaker, this year's event featured footage of the Cattlemen scholarship recipients, along with the local kids who won the Catch-It contest at the La Plata County Fair, raising the animals that they catch in the annual contest.
"That's why we do the banquet, is to raise money for the scholarships and a catch-it heifer," said Melody Semler, one of the many volunteers who worked to organize this year's event.
