The Colorado Department of Transportation will perform avalanche control work on U.S. Highway 550 on Red Mountain Pass starting at 10 a.m. Friday.
Drivers will experience several periodic long closures of up to one hour for much of the day.
Operations will take place on the north side of Red Mountain Pass. Northbound traffic will be stopped at the summit of the pass (mile marker 80), while southbound traffic will be held near Ironton (mile marker 84).
