CDOT to conduct rockfall mitigation north of Durango

Drivers can expect delays on U.S. Highway 550

Colorado Department of Transportation will perform rockfall mitigation on U.S. Highway 550 between Durango and Silverton, near the Deer Creek area, starting Aug. 21.

Crews will conduct rock scaling operations, and remove loose rock from slopes. The project is estimated to be completed by Aug. 25.

Drivers can expect up to 20-minute delays about 35 miles north of Durango on U.S. Highway 550. Traffic stops will allow crews to perform hillside scaling operations and remove rock and debris from the road.

CDOT also reminds travelers of the additional work zone in place on Molas Pass, about 45 miles north of Durango on U.S. Highway 550. Drivers can expect up to 20-minute delays in that area, as well.
