CDOT to start rockfall work on Highway 3

Colorado Department of Transportation will start rockfall mitigation on State Highway 3 on Thursday, Aug. 21. The south end of Hwy. 3 will be closed through mid November for this work.

The work zone will be below the cliff face between the Hwy. 3 intersection with Highway 160/ 550 and the south end of Sawmill Road.

Access to the Rivergate complex and other Hwy. 3 businesses will be from the north. The Carbon Junction trailhead with access to the Telegraph trail system will be open, but parking will not be available there. Parking will be available farther south at the Big Canyon trailhead. A temporary roadside path will connect the two trailheads.

Work is expected to be finished in November, with a possibility of some continued work in 2015.
