Class 2A fifth-ranked Cedaredge was able to stay undefeated Saturday with a road doubleheader sweep at Ignacio thanks to a six-run seventh inning in Game 2.
That helped Cedaredge (5-0) break a 5-5 tie going into the seventh, and Ignacio’s rally fell short in an 11-8 loss in Game 2 after a 7-0 shutout win for Cedaredge in the first game.
In Game 2, Gabe Tucson gave IHS (2-3) a good start on the mound in 4 2/3 innings of work. He allowed four runs on six hits and six walks, but he struck out 11.
Cedaredge starting pitcher Jacob Brown went 5 2/3 innings and gave up five runs on five hits, four walks and struck out nine.
Isaac Blair had a big game at the plate for the Bruins, as he went 4-for-4 with a triple, a double, four RBIs and a run scored. Colby Rupp was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored, and leadoff man Trey Geyer also scored three times, as he went 1-for-2 at the plate with three walks.
Tucson was 1-for-4 with a double and run at the plate for Ignacio in the loss. Jace Carmenoros was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Phillip Quintana went 2-for-4 with a run and Clint Talamante-Benavidez was 1-for-3 with a ground-rule double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Lawrence Toledo also walked twice and came around to score each time.
In Game 1, IHS was silenced at the plate by the pitching of Geyer, who went 6 2/3 innings of two-hit ball. He struck out 13 and walked two. Eppie and Phillip Quintana each had one hit for the only IHS offense in the game.
Blair had a triple and a homer in the 7-0 win, while Derek Sanchez was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Next, the Bobcats will visit Rangely for a doubleheader Friday.
