Celebrating sacred arts

“A Course in Miracles One Through Seven,” by Bradley Kachnowicz.

The ninth annual Sacred Arts Festival, which celebrates artistic expressions of the sacred of all types, opens this weekend in Durango with an art reception, poetry workshop, meditation garden and poetry reading.

The festival is hosted by 3rd Ave. Arts, and all events take place at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 910 East Third Ave. Festival events include:

ICON artists opening reception, 5-7 p.m. on Friday.

Poetry and Spirit: A workshop for Readers and Writers, with instructor Beth Paulson, 1:30-4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Poetry For the Spirit reading and reception, 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Music for Sacred Spaces, a concert of original music, 2 p.m. Sunday.

The festival continues into October with a workshop with Susan Merrill on Oct. 4.
