Centauri football too much for Ignacio to handle

Bobcats can’t sustain strong start

The Ignacio High School football team was simply over matched in its meeting with Centauri Friday night in La Jara.

The Falcons (7-0, 2-0 1A Southern Peaks League), ranked No. 1 in the CHSAA RPI rankings and third in the CHSAA coaches poll, used a dominant running attack to wear down and beat up the Bobcats for a 51-0 victory.

Ignacio (2-5, 1-2 SPL) fought hard in the first quarter to keep Centauri out of the end zone and went into the second quarter with the game scoreless.

But the Falcons began asserting their dominance in the second quarter and scored four touchdowns to take a 29-0 lead into halftime.

The Falcons added two rushing touchdowns and had an interception returned for a touchdown in the second half.

Ignacio will close out its season next week, hosting winless John Mall (0-6, 0-2 SPL) at 7 p.m. Friday at Bobcat Stadium. Ignacio head coach Alfonso Garcia was not available for comment. Stats and a full scoring summary were not available.
