Centauri’s running game wore down the Ignacio High School football team in a 58-16 win Saturday in La Jara.
The Bobcats only trailed by 10 at halftime, but Centauri “got on a roll,” according to IHS head coach Lupe Huerta, finishing with more than 250 yards on the ground.
“Their passing game wasn’t a threat, but their running game was,” Huerta said.
IHS quarterback Adison Jones completed 20-of-36 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns, one to Clayton Jefferson and another to Wyatt Hayes, but threw two interceptions as well.
“We were moving the ball well, just had penalties and untimely picks,” Huerta said.
IHS (3-3, 0-2 Southern Peaks League) lost its second consecutive league game, while Centauri (5-1, 2-0 SPL) won for the fourth consecutive week.
It was the second consecutive game the Bobcats gave up more than 50 points after they won their previous three contests in blowout fashion.
IHS next will play Friday at Center, then will continue its league schedule against Del Norte on Oct. 19 at home.
“We knew going into league play that our two toughest games were going to be the first two,” Huerta said. “I think they’ll bounce back just fine.”
