Center of Southwest Studies will continue its summer lecture series with a presentation from Andrew Gulliford, “Hispano Sheepherders from Colorado and New Mexico: Culture, Tradition and Sheepscapes,” at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the center’s Lyceum Room 120.
From his book “The Woolly West,” Gulliford will discuss the history of sheep grazing and explain historical archaeology and sites related to sheep movements, as well as lonely sheepherder lifeways in Colorado’s high country for summer grazing.
Gulliford is a professor of history and environmental studies at Fort Lewis College and has received the National Individual Volunteer Award, the Colorado Book Award for History and the Wrangler Western Heritage Award for Outstanding Non-Fiction.
Books will be available for sale. The lecture is free and open to the public. Parking on campus is free during summer months.
