Center of Southwest Studies to host doctoral fellow research presentation

The Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College will host a presentation from the center’s 2018-2019 doctoral fellow, Patrick Troester, at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Lyceum Room, number 120.

Troester will present on his fellowship research project, Gender, Kinship and Colonial Violence in Texas, 1820-1880.

Troester will present preliminary findings from his research in the collections of the Center of Southwest Studies. In particular, he will focus on the Anglo-American colonization of Texas between 1820 and 1880, examining the violent conflicts that process provoked with the region’s Native American and ethnic Mexican peoples.

The talk will explore the ways in which gender and kinship shaped the experiences, actions and understandings of both Euro-American and indigenous peoples during this transformative period.
