The Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College will host a lecture by Amy Wendland, “A Garden on Paper: Drawing on a Scientific Legacy,” at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Lyceum Room.
Wendland, an art professor, will discuss botanical art and illustration, focusing on her recent collaboration with the biology department.
During a reorganization and move of the herbarium at FLC, botanists culled piles of old and damaged plant specimens. Repurposed herbarium samples are the basis for Wendland’s artwork, which investigates the relationship between scientifically accurate representation and creative interpretation.
The event is free and open to the public.
