Challenging partisanship in the school board race

My friends, Tamra Fenberg and Pearl Stegner, are running for the Durango School District’s Board of Education. Recently I learned there is a rumor going around Durango that both of these challengers have accepted donations from a rich conservative located in Denver.

This is untrue. Both Pearl and Tamra are running independently of each other and are determined to remain nonpartisan in this campaign not only because Colorado law states that the Board of Education races are to be nonpartisan, but because they do not want to be controlled by political agendas, but by their own personal conscience when it comes to our children.

I have noticed that all three incumbent candidates are requesting donations through a site ActBlue which is a Democratic Party political action committee and fundraising platform. Is this nonpartisan?

I challenge each and every voter to get out and listen to the candidates and vote for those whose platform most closely align with your own personal values for our schools regardless of political affiliation.

You can see what Tamra and Pearl value by checking out Tamra’s Facebook at Fenberg for School Board and Pearl’s Instagram at Pearl4DurangoSchools. Let’s get back to a true democratic system.

I’ve spoken with Tamra and Pearl and support the changes they want to bring to the Durango school board. Ballots drop Oct. 10 and I’ll be voting for Fenberg and Stegner on or before Nov. 4.
