Champagne aims to protect community

Christian Champagne has run a positive campaign stressing his experience as a sex crimes prosecutor, which includes his support for victims, his efforts at community education in matters of violence and his commitment to restorative justice. With experience as a public defender before his work as a prosecutor, he brings a well-rounded approach to the position of district attorney.

Earlier this year, I served as a juror on a sexual assault trial prosecuted by Champagne. During the lengthy proceeding, he was at all times prepared and articulate in presenting his case. Champagne was supportive and compassionate toward the victim. He also maintained a respectful attitude toward the defendant and the defense attorneys. The decision to find an individual guilty of such a serious offense is not easy or taken lightly, however, Champagne presented a convincing argument and the jurors unanimously returned a guilty verdict. The sentence received by the defendant was in line with what had been requested by the victim.

Christian Champagne is dedicated to protecting our community, especially those among us who are most vulnerable to personal violence. As district attorney, he will be able to serve all citizens and continue the work he has done in making a difference. I support Christian Champagne and hope that the voters in Tuesday’s primary join me in electing him as our next district attorney.
